Short answer: start with the number of children. For one child, a two-stone ring with mom's birthstone and her child's says it best. For two children, a two-stone ring with one stone per child. For three or more, either stack one two-stone ring per pair of children, or choose a single multi-stone “mother's ring”. Then check the metal, whether the stones are genuine or simulated, and her size.
Transparency: we make the KOVA Ring, a two-birthstone ring, so we are not neutral. Where a multi-stone ring from another brand fits better, we say so.
Choose by number of children
| Her family | Best option | Example |
|---|---|---|
| 1 child | Two-stone ring: her stone + her child's | Mom born in March, baby born in September |
| 2 children | Two-stone ring: one stone per child | June + December |
| 3 or 4 children | Stack 2 two-stone rings, or one multi-stone ring | One ring for the older two, one for the younger two |
| 5 children or more | A multi-stone mother's ring | One band with every stone |
Two-stone, stacked or multi-stone?
- Two-stone (Toi et Moi): the cleanest look, easy to wear every day, and the meaning is instantly clear. Limited to two people per ring.
- Stacked two-stone rings: grows with the family. Add a ring when a new baby arrives, and each ring keeps its own story.
- Multi-stone mother's ring: every child on one band. More traditional, often wider, and harder to change later.
What to check before you buy
- Every birth month is available, including the less common ones like October and November.
- Genuine or simulated stones. Most rings under $100 use simulated stones (crystal or cubic zirconia). That is normal, as long as the listing says so.
- Real colours. Photos often exaggerate. On many simulated stones, July is pink rather than red and March is almost clear.
- Metal. Stainless steel with a gold or silver finish handles daily wear and water; sterling silver is precious but tarnishes; plated brass is the most likely to discolour.
- Her size. See the tip below.
How to find mom's ring size without asking
Borrow a ring she wears on the same finger, measure the inside diameter, or trace the inside circle on paper. On the KOVA Ring, S is a US 6 (52 mm around), M a US 8 (57 mm) and L a US 10 (62 mm). Between two sizes, take the larger one. In our own orders, about 6 in 10 KOVA Rings are ordered in M.
The KOVA Ring for moms
The KOVA Ring holds two teardrop-cut crystals side by side forming a heart, one per birth month, in 18K gold plating or a polished silver finish over stainless steel, made to order. Its colour guide tells you honestly what each month looks like, for example “July ruby: fuchsia pink, not red” and “November citrine: amber orange, not yellow”.
- For a mom of one or two: one ring with the two stones that matter.
- For a mom of three or four: two rings stacked, one per pair of children. You can also give one ring to her and one to a grandmother.
Price (November 2026): US$49.90 in the United States, CA$69.90 in Canada, with a second ring free at the time of writing, which makes a stack of two easy.
FAQ
What is a good Christmas gift for a mom with young kids?
Something she can wear every day that carries her children with her. A birthstone ring is discreet, personal and goes with everything.
Can I put mom's birthstone with her child's?
Yes, that is one of the most popular choices for a mom of one: her month on one side, her child's on the other.
Are the stones real?
On the KOVA Ring, they are teardrop-cut crystals, simulated birthstones. If you want genuine gemstones, expect a much higher price.
What if she has three kids?
Stack two rings (for example, two children on one, the third child with mom's stone on the other), or choose a multi-stone mother's ring from a brand that offers three-stone designs.
More on choosing the two stones in our guide to the Toi et Moi birthstone ring.
